Lucas and School

Lucas and school have had a rough relationship the last few years. We really noticed him having more and more trouble as he got into tougher grades. We almost kept him back after 4Th grade and discussed it again in 5Th grade, but along with his teachers decided it was better to keep him advancing. Homework has been a major issue. He hates doing it, and at times assignments that should take 30 minutes were taking over and hour to complete. Homework has counted for more of his grades and his grades have been getting lower because of it. There have been many fights over homework both missed assignments and lost ones and many tears shed by both him and me over the years. This year was no different. He started off strong, but with the
1st progress report trouble was brewing. His report card came - A's in electives like band and gym, but a B-, C and 2 D's in the major classes. I was wondering what we were going to do, feeling helpless and lost and thinking that we made a huge mistake in letting him advance again. Then we got the ADD diagnosis and started medication. He also started staying after for extra help. We got his report card for the second term and there has been HUGE improvements! He received A+ in band and gym, A in Tech Ed, B- in Science, Social Studies, and Language Arts, and a C- in Math! There were no D's and the C- was very close to a C and one B- was only 0.10 away from a solid B. We are so proud of him! I thought that both the medication and the extra help were really paying off and this proves it! Way to Go Lucas!
